Mud Sales and the Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction

In this episode of the Road Apple Guide to Lancaster, we talk about mud sales and the Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction. I also share the story of how my wife almost ended up with a bay at the age of 16, and no, it’s not what you think.

Thank you to our sponsors: The Hertzog Homestead Bed and Breakfast and Performance Coach Kristen Hertzog.

Lancaster is a county of auctions that gives and donates money through these events. From the beginning of February and running to the end of May, the county is known for the plethora of mud sales that it produces. You can find a list of them here. Many of these benefit fire companies in the area.

The Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction happens each year around the third weekend of May at the Hertzog Homestead Bed and Breakfast.  The 6th annual Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction is happening on May 19th, 2018 and will assist Pistos and Paradigm Shift.

What makes this auction unique and different from any other charity run auction is that it is an ecumenical effort between the Amish the conservative horse and buggy Mennonites, regular Mennonites and Christians of different Persuasions. And they all work toward a common goal: to help people living in poverty gain education and employment skills so that they can become self-sustainable, no longer needing outside help.

If you are coming to Lancaster County on that weekend, it is the perfect place to buy quilts, sheds, plants, garden tools, handyman tools, Adirondack chairs, rockers, and much, much more. There are also gift certificates to surrounding restaurants and experience packages that invite you to enjoy meals, zip line adventures, and baseball games.

And we can’t forget the food: from toasted cheeseburger and barbeque chicken to smoothies to French fries, pies, hand-dipped ice cream and the plethora of baked goods.

We invite you to come join us and have a unique experience surrounded by Amish, horse and buggy Mennonites, and other people who just love to help the people of Haiti.
